Laurel’s Wood CIC was established in 2022 to manage Laurel’s Wood, a tranquil 16-acre woodland on the fringe of Liverpool, untouched and closed to the public since it was planted in the 1990’s. Overgrown and inaccessible, the woodland was in need of intervention to ensure its resilience, enhance biodiversity and increase its ability to react to climate changes.
The aim of Laurel’s Wood CIC is to manage the woodland and glades in line with a Forestry Commission approved Woodland Management Plan and to create an accessible woodland, designed to bring communities together to experience the wellbeing benefits of connecting with nature. Community groups, schools, families and businesses are able to use the space for a range of activities from bushcraft, orienteering and wellness, to volunteering and longer-term career pathways into the forestry sector. The objective is for the woodland to become financially self sufficient, generating income which can be invested to protect its diverse ecology and offer programmes, facilities and courses to our stakeholders.
